Supporting the Next Generation

Honoring The Legacy of Congressman John R. Lewis

the Taylor Morse Brown (TMB) Foundation announced the launch of the John R. Lewis “Good Trouble” Scholarship, to assist Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students studying criminal justice or history with emphasis on Civil Rights. This scholarship serves to honor the legacy of the late Congressman John R. Lewis by enhancing the commitment of future generations to preserving civil rights in this county, a cause which Congressman Lewis fought so fervently to protect during his lifetime.

“We’re excited to do our part to honor the legacy of our fraternity brother Congressman John R. Lewis who dedicated over 60 plus years of his life to social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, health-care reform and immigration,” said Corky Conyers, TMB Foundation President. “Brother Lewis has positively impacted this world and my life as an active member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. I believe to honor his legacy we must continue fighting for the dignity of every person and grow a new generation of civil rights warriors. We must get into as he famously says “Good Trouble, Necessary Trouble” and never give up or give in until we’re all equal citizens.”

The scholarship is intended to support those students passionate about protecting the civil rights of all Americans. “All my years with Congressman Lewis has taught me the relevance of forgiveness and having faith. Therefore, regardless of those who are trying to take us back, we must all be inspired to fight for racial justice and equality. We must see things through. To settle is an injustice to the process.” said Jacob Gillison, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Sigma Sigma Sigma Chapter President,”Congressman Lewis was an active member of the chapter and endorsed the creation of the John Lewis: Good Trouble Scholarship Fund.”
